Free Up Some Disk SpacePlenty of options here to help make minor improvements to your computer.Look at things like – removing temporary internet files, removing downloaded program files, emptying your recycle bin, get rid of those Windows temp files, uninstall programs you no longer use and even get rid of old files, music you don’t listen to,  videos you no longer need, or the huge range of images that could be better kept if you burned them to a cd and removed them from the pc! 

All of these options will make small but potentially noticeable improvements to your slow computer.

Diagnose Computer Errors
There are a range of software products that you can download that will diagnose any errors you might have that are making your computer run slowly.

Disable Programs at XP Start Up
1. Click on Start->Run 
2. Type "msconfig" and click OK. (This will bring up System Configuration Utility.)
3. In the System Configuration Utility, Click the tab called Startup.
4. Now you can uncheck any programs that you do not want running at Windows XP startup.
5. Once you are done unchecking programs, Click OK. You will be prompted to restart your computer at this point.
Have a nosey at google to find out what on earth some of these programs are before you disable ones you are not sure of for example I disabled aim6(aol instant messenger), steam (games application), and iTunesHelper.

Don’t automatically search for network files and printers when you use windows explorerTo disable this option open ‘My Computer’ and go to tools and folder options. From here click the view tab and unceck ‘automatically search for network folders and printers’. Apply your changes, click OK and then restart your pc. You are away!!
