LDMOS Amplifiers – RF Man
The latest developments in LDMOS transistor technology have enabled these devices to be excellent replacements for bipolar transistors and traditional electron tubes. This technology provides lower operation temperatures, greater efficiencies, higher power output, and higher tolerances to impedance mismatches. In recent years, LDMOS has become the leading technology for a wide variety of RF power applications including Ham Radio, base station broadcasting in AM, FM, SSB, VHF, UHF modes, as well as a variety of industrial, scientific, medical, and radar applications.

The BLF188XR LDMOS transistors used in these RF Pallets are designed primarily for broadband RF power amplifiers with frequencies up to 600 MHz. This family of devices is considered Extremely Rugged and can withstand SWR’s of greater than 65:1 at all phase angles around the Smith chart. The BLF18XX operates on 50 volts DC and is ideal for all linear amplifier applications. The bias current is preset to 500mA and can be readjusted by the use of 2 independent potentiometers on the board. The board dimensions are 4″ wide by 7.5″ long. A large aluminum heat sink and forced air are required for proper cooling and reliable operation.

The RF Man’s Bio

Rob or “RF Man” has certifications as a Master Black Belt (MBB) and Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) through the ASQ. His education includes a BS degree in Business Management from the State University of New York. Concentrations included a major in Quality Management and a minor in Electrical Engineering, and the Assurance Sciences.
Rob held various Engineering and Management positions working for NCR and AT&T in the 1990’s and more recently joined Siemens Energy in 2005 as the Director of Quality Engineering. At Siemens he was responsible for the development and implementation of a Quality Management and Health and Safety system. He started his own business (RF Man Amplifiers) in 2015 and now sells LDMOS amplifiers to a variety of industries and education institutions.
